Renegade Recommends – The August List

10623429_765161323523366_7975140535020360117_oWe love our music here at Renegade Brewery. Our brewhouse is rarely silent, although this week brew-monkey Griff has been into a bit of Aphrodite’s Child, which meant he then got some Demis Roussos spinning too. All well and good but Demis then led into some really rather weird Turkish Psychedelic stuff, which was cool, but a bit of an acquired taste. So, to give my ears a bit of love and attention, I thought I would revisit one of our best local acts, and a band who really have that renegade spirit and do their own thing – The August List.

Hailing from Dorset but now residing in a small barn perched on a hill up the road in Oxfordshire, The August List are a two-piece who play ‘backwards country / porch folk’ with a startling rock ‘n’ roll attitude. Their album “O’ Hinterland” is fabulously and unashamedly lo-fi, gloriously rough around the edges and rustic. The strength of it lies in the immediacy of the songs, for they are catchy, foot-stomping backwoods folk tunes, infectious and drenched with atmosphere. And live, despite just being two people, they rock it out brilliantly. Pull up your rocking chair, crack a (Renegade) beer open and enjoy a proper good musical moment on your porch.
